Pyrography or heat-engraving,
is a decorative proccess which consists of using a heated
metal point to draw on an object. It is possible to
engrave on many materials such as wood, cork, leather.
Do not attempt to use the woodburning pen on materials
which are likely to melt(plastic, imitation leather).
First, prepare the object to be decorated by using fine
sandpaper to sand down the surface to be engraved. To
make good engraving, it is best to make the intial drawing
in pencil. In order to do this, you can either draw
a design freehand directly on to the object or use carbon
paper. Choose the right tip to screw into tool. Connect
power and wait for the tool to heat up on its stand.
Hold the tool like a pen. Be careful not to touch the
metal parts. Begin to engrave following pencil lines.
There is no need to press too hard with the point of
the tool. it is better to go over the same lines several
times. The different tips and the angle of the tool
can give different engraving effects.
